7 CEUs for the Canola Watch 2020 exam

The Canola Watch annual exam for CCA and CCSC credits is in seven sections this year. This gives CCAs and CCSCs the opportunity to customize the exam based on credits they need. Those who achieve 70 per cent or better on any one section will qualify for one continuing education unit (CEU) for that section. Pass all seven, get seven CEUs.

How much fertilizer does canola need?

Canola generally needs nitrogen, phosphorus and sulphur fertilizer each year. A small percentage of fields will also benefit from a potassium application. The following article suggests what canola needs and what soil and crop residue could provide. The rest will come from fertilizer.

De-registered varieties are a no-grow

Growing registered canola varieties is an important part of assuring our export customers that the oil and meal quality, biotech traits and disease resistance in our canola supply meet their requirements. To mitigate risk, do not seed any de-registered canola varieties and do not deliver seed produced from them to an elevator or grain handler.

Canola re-flowering after drought, hail

Canola has the capacity to flower longer if stress subsides and potential for higher seed yield improves. With enough moisture, canola can also resume flowering if stems are cut from hail or swathing.
